At Be the Voice of Girls, we believe that learning English goes beyond textbooks—it’s about building confidence, sharing ideas, and using language in real-life conversations. In our latest virtual session, we had the incredible opportunity to learn from Aubrey Carter, a host of All Ears English and IELTS Energy, as she guided our girls through the art of asking and answering personal questions in English.
Breaking the Ice: Food, Travel, and More!
Aubrey started the session by diving into an essential skill: making personal connections through conversation. But instead of focusing on complex grammar drills, she made it fun and relatable—starting with food! The girls explored phrases for discussing dietary preferences, food allergies, and cultural perspectives on eating habits.
One highlight was when participants shared whether they had any food restrictions. This sparked an engaging discussion about vegetarian and vegan lifestyles, where the girls respectfully exchanged opinions about nutrition, culture, and personal choices. One student summed it up beautifully: “I think we should respect other people’s choices because if they feel happy that way, that’s what matters.”
Dreaming Big: Where Would You Live?
From food, the conversation flowed naturally to another exciting topic—travel and dream destinations. When asked, “If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?”, responses ranged from Madrid to New York City, with students explaining what drew them to bustling metropolises or peaceful coastal retreats.
One of the most fun moments was discussing the contrast between bustling cities and tranquil spaces. Some of our girls dream of skyscrapers and vibrant city life, while others long for the calm of a small town by the sea. The beauty of learning English? It allows them to dream bigger, connect across cultures, and one day, make these dreams a reality.
Extrovert or Introvert? BVG Girls Weigh In
As the session progressed, we explored personality traits—Are you more of an introvert or an extrovert? Many students reflected on how they recharge their energy. One participant enthusiastically declared: “I am an extrovert! I love being around people. Socializing makes me feel relaxed and happy.”
But another had a different perspective: “I enjoy being social, but afterward, I need time alone to recharge. Some people give me energy, but others drain it.”
These insights led to a fantastic discussion about how personality influences our social lives and learning styles—a topic that resonated deeply with everyone.
Take It Further: Keep Practicing with All Ears English!
To build on today’s lesson, Aubrey recommended checking out the All Ears English podcast. A great next step is Episode 1720: Let Me Tell You How to Explain the Topic of a Movie or TV Show in English. This episode will help our girls refine their storytelling skills and improve their fluency when discussing entertainment—a perfect follow-up to today’s conversation practice!
Why This Session Was Special
At Be the Voice of Girls, every session is about more than just language—it’s about empowerment. Today, our girls learned how to navigate personal conversations in English, how to express opinions respectfully, and how to build connections across cultures. Through humor, storytelling, and interactive role-plays, they practiced skills that will serve them in school, work, and life.
A huge thank you to Aubrey Carter for sharing her energy, expertise, and encouragement with our girls! This session wasn’t just educational—it was divine! (As we learned, that’s a great word to describe something truly amazing.)
